Abstract

This paper discusses notions of stylistic foregrounding in the revolutionary ghazals by Faiz Ahmed Faiz, analyzing how the poet employs stylistic elements to communicate social and political messages. From the descriptions we are able to infer that stylistics is a way of writing which breaks expressive norms and intends to draw attention on the meanings and feelings it cannot ignore, frequently becomes bearer of the revolutionary speech; from this process we analyze as an element of deviation from normative regularity segmentation by emphasis. The research casts a critical glance at Faiz's chosen ghazals, and evaluates his use of metaphor, imagery, phono aesthetics and syntax. The study states that the stylistic foregrounding employed by Faiz heightens the emotional charge and ideological drift of his poetry. In addition, the paper offers a pedagogical method to utilize the study of stylistic foregrounding in ESL and literature classrooms as a means for enhancing students' understanding of not only literary aesthetics but also political stances found in poetic works. Through analyzing Faiz’s radical ghazals, the paper foregrounds the interplay between form and content in his writing and its pedagogical significance for teaching literary theory and social change.
